Whilst we know that听parasiticides鈥痑re vital tools in preventing,听treating听and protecting听the health and welfare of people and animals,听there鈥檚听increasing evidence some of these products are damaging to the environment.听听

Many听of you are concerned about this issue too:听93.5% of听you who responded to our听Spring 2025听Voice of the Veterinary Profession听survey听were concerned about the environmental impact of small animal parasiticides, 70% agreed any blanket prophylaxis was 鈥渋nappropriate鈥� and 80% agreed 鈥渢here should be a lot more restrictions on the sale of small animal parasiticides鈥�.听

It鈥檚听positive to see this report鈥檚 recommendations, which parallel many of听our听own:听we鈥檝e听long called for more research and for a risk-based approach to be taken听as听highlighted in听the oral听evidence听session by听Liz.听We also support calls for a ban on over-the-counter sales 鈥撎齣t鈥檚听important pet owners have access to professional, tailored, veterinary advice on how to use these treatments appropriately,听responsibly听and safely when听purchasing听these products.听
